It was a morning to remember at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Ekiadolor, as the College’s top brass pulled off a heartwarming surprise birthday celebration for the Provost, Dr. Emmanuel Asagha complete with cheers, cake, and camaraderie.

The unscripted celebration unfolded just after 9:00 a.m. at the administrative block, where the Principal Officers, Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments (HODs), and Union leaders gathered to honor the man at the helm. The heads of COEASU and SSUCON were also on hand, adding to the show of solidarity.

As the Provost made his way to his office, he was greeted by an enthusiastic chorus of “Happy Birthday” that echoed through the halls, catching the Provost visibly off guard but clearly touched. The event, described by organizers as “a tribute in arrears,” was spearheaded by the college’s Senior leadership team in recognition of Dr. Asagha’s enduring contributions to the institution.

Mr. Sylvester Cole set the tone with a solemn invocation, praying for continued wisdom and strength for the celebrant. What followed was a series of heartfelt tributes from School heads and unit leaders, each highlighting the Provost’s visionary leadership and unwavering dedication to the college’s mission.

A symbolic highlight came in the form of a giant birthday card signed by the entire academic leadership corps presented to Dr. Asagha as a token of collective admiration.

“I thank everyone who brought this delightful surprise together,” The Provost said in a brief but moving response. “Your songs, your presence, and your good wishes are gifts I will cherish. Above all, I salute our pioneering staff whose loyalty has been the bedrock of our college’s progress.”

The event reached a sweet climax with the ceremonial cutting of an elaborately decorated birthday cake, triggering a round of applause and photo ops aplenty. The courtyard buzzed with laughter, toasts, and light refreshments as staff mingled, exchanged warm wishes, and snapped selfies with the Provost.

The occasion was more than just a birthday celebration, it was a snapshot of unity and mutual respect that continues to define the spirit of FCE(T), Ekiadolor.

As one HOD aptly put it, “It’s not every day you see the entire leadership of a college come together just to say ‘thank you’ to one of their own. That says a lot.”
