FCE (Technical), Ekiadolor Hosts SIWES Orientation Programme in Collaboration with ITF

The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) Benin Area Office, in collaboration with the Federal College of Education (Technical), Ekiadolor, organized an orientation programme for students of the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) on Tuesday, 15th April 2025.

Held at the 500-seat lecture theatre of the college, the event commenced at exactly 11:37 a.m. with an opening prayer led by Miss Aisosa Asemota from the Department of Business Education.

The programme had in attendance members of the college management team, led by the College Librarian, Dr. Tony I. Obaseki, who represented the Provost, Dr. Emmanuel N. Asagha. Also present were other principal officers of the college, the Director of SIWES, and the ITF delegation headed by Mr. Okodza.

In his welcome address, the Provost—represented by Dr. Obaseki—expressed appreciation to the ITF team and emphasized the institution’s commitment to practical skill development. He stated: “Our students are willing and ready to acquire the necessary industrial experience. This programme will ensure they are productively engaged, not roaming the streets.”

The orientation featured a keynote lecture by Mr. Innocent Ibia, who gave an insightful presentation on the relevance of SIWES. He encouraged students to take the programme seriously, noting its importance to academic success, skills acquisition, and access to financial stipends.

His presentation was structured around six main themes:

  • Historical Overview of SIWES
  • Objectives of the Scheme
  • Stakeholders and Their Roles
  • SIWES Documentation Procedures
  • Guidelines for Student Allowances
  • Code of Conduct for Participants

The session concluded with an interactive Q&A segment, allowing students to seek further clarity on various aspects of the scheme.

The event came to a close at exactly 1:37 p.m. with a closing prayer offered by Miss Victory Ogidigbo.
